Welcome, and thank you for your interest in supporting The Windward School. Windward relies upon the philanthropic support of its entire community, which include trustees, parents/guardians, alumni and their parents, grandparents, faculty and staff, and friends of the School. Your generous gifts allow Windward to provide its unique, evidence-based program to students on our three campuses.
The Development Office oversees all Windward’s fundraising initiatives, such as the Windward Fund, capital campaigns, and special event fundraisers such as the biennial benefit and the annual Windward Classic golf and tennis outing. The office staff also manages the growing alumni program and serves as the liaison between the Windward Parents Association and the School.
The success of any development program depends on the generosity of both gifts and time from its community members, and Windward is most fortunate to have a committed group of people who donate both to support and enhance its proven educational program. If your company offers an Employee Matching Gifts program, you can make the impact of your gift to Windward go even further. Please check with the Human Resources office of your company to determine if they have a matching gift program. Gifts made by corporations to match your donation will be credited to you and counted in your cumulative giving for that fiscal year.

Donors may set up a pledged gift, which is paid off in increments over a specified period of time. Contact Melissa Stewart for details.
An attractive way for donors to contribute is through gifts of appreciated securities. Giving long-term appreciated securities offers a tax saving benefit in that you avoid paying any capital gains tax on the increase in value of your security. It is important to note that to receive the tax benefit, the donor should not personally sell the security, but transfer it directly to Windward’s account for the School to sell.
For example:
You purchase 10 shares of ABC at $20 for a total value of $200.
The ABC share price increases to $100, bringing the total value of your investment to $1,000.
If you sell the shares and donate the $1,000 to Windward, you will receive a deduction for the gift but will also have to pay capital gains tax on the $800 increase of the investment.
On the other hand, if you donate the 10 shares of ABC directly to Windward, you receive the same $1,000 deduction but will not ever have to pay the capital gains tax.
