About Outplacement at Windward
The outplacement department at The Windward School plays a critical role in ensuring that students transition successfully to mainstream schools when they are ready. Students are assessed annually for progress, and recommendations are made for the following year. Following the recommendations of the outplacement team helps ensure your child's long-term academic success. With firsthand knowledge of various school options, along with an understanding of a student’s learning profile and interests, the team works with families to develop a transition plan to their next school, which is often a mainstream setting. For approximately one year, the outplacement team assists families with applications, managing testing requirements, and preparing students for school visits and interviews. The office manages the submission of all school records and recommendations required in the application process. Most importantly, the director advocates for our students to find the best match.

Path to academic success

Building confidence
Becoming Self-Advocates
Although the outplacement experience is founded on academic readiness, it is equally beneficial for the development of our students’ sense of self-reliance. They leave the School with strong academic skills and the confidence needed to navigate their next school journey. The outplacement department strongly encourages students to strengthen self-advocacy by taking initiative throughout the application process, from writing their personal statements to preparing for interviews. With these skills, students can learn how to support their learning beyond Windward, both effectively and professionally.

From the Director
“We love to see the kids use the tools they’ve been given at Windward a bit more independently, and take initiative to be strong self-advocates.”
