The Windward School welcomed two members of the Swedish Royal Family, HRH Prince Carl Philip, Duke of Värmland, and his wife, HRH Princess Sofia as well as members of The Prince Couple’s Foundation—general secretary Kim Waller, COO Essi Alho, and senior project manager Mariama Sy—to its Manhattan campus on Monday, April 3 as a preface to their participation in the second annual World Dyslexia Assembly, which took place at Lincoln Center later in the day.

Believed to be the first such certificate in New York State, and one of only a handful in the nation; giving teachers strategies to teach children with the most common language-based learning disability, dyslexia.

World Dyslexia Assembly is coming to NYC April 3, 2023 from 4-7pm.

On November 17, Windward welcomed Dr. Carrie James and Dr. Emily Weinstein for a community presentation around supporting children's online experiences, helping them evaluate their relationships with technology, and developing healthy screen habits.

On November 20, Windward families braved crisp but sunny weather to gather for an open house and the naming of Westchester Lower School in honor of Dr. John J. Russell.

Congratulations to Windward parent Monica Berg and her daughter Abigail, current Manhattan Lower School grade 4 student, on the publication of their book, The Gift of Being Different.

This fall, Edukate NYC will support an incoming student at The Windward School by granting tuition assistance and pro bono legal services. This dynamic partnership directly serves the mission of each organization in their efforts to provide students in need with the skills and strategies required to succeed in school and achieve their academic potential.

Jamie Williamson and Robert Carroll co-authored an op-ed urging New York City and state lawmakers to enact meaningful education reforms to ensure all students have access to effective reading instruction.
