Positive reviews of RR have been countered by an ever-increasing number of reports that are critical of RR and cast doubts on the claims that RR is effective and research based.

The Windward School, through the Windward Institute and its affiliation with the Haskins Global Literacy Hub, has played a significant role in the process of translating research findings into research-based and research-informed practices and programs for the benefit of its students and the larger educational community. 

Members of the Haskins Global Literacy Hub Leadership team presented recommendations on three areas that would have an immediate effect on improving reading outcomes.

Not being able to read proficiently can have a devastating impact on life. Entire futures, including job/financial security and confidence, rest on the ability to read and write.

Despite a solid understanding of what constitutes effective reading instruction, the difficulty of determining whether a reading program deserves the labels scientifically based or evidence-based persists. ​​​​​​​

No matter the underlining causes, special education disproportionality is an issue of social justice because of its unequal effects on the education of students of color.

The bridge between education and neuroscience is evolving into a field with an ever-increasing research base to support its findings and enormous potential of educational neuroscience.
