Windward Joins Emily Hanford & Other Literacy Advocates at Upcoming Conference

On June 23-24, 2021, The Windward School’s Dr. John J. Russell, Special Projects Advisor for The Windward Institute, and Danielle Scorrano, Research and Development Director and Host of Windward's READ Podcast, join literacy advocates Emily Hanford, Senior Producer and Correspondent at APM Reports, and Devin Kearns, Associate Professor at Neag School of Education at University of Connecticut, as speakers at the Language and Literacy Institute for Educators: Linking Researchers with Practitioners organized by Haskins Global Literacy Hub, a partner of The Windward School.

This 2-day, virtual conference will focus on the Science of Reading through the lenses of research and practice and registration is available here.

“It is vital that we empower administrators, educators, and practitioners with both a foundation and blueprint for research-based instruction through ongoing professional development based on The Science of Reading,” says Jamie Williamson, EdS, Head of The Windward School and Director of The Windward Institute. “By providing opportunities for collaboration between researchers and educators, we can rebuild how we teach reading and serve all children.”

In their roles, Ms. Scorrano will crystalize the presentations from day one, providing key takeaways and calls to action for educators. At the start of the second day, Dr. Russell will deliver opening remarks to guide the conference as central researchers present on the current science and application of evidence-based reading instruction and targeted strategies for English Language Learners.
