The Windward Institute New Faculty Spotlight: Connecting the Expertise of The Windward School with the Broader Community

Building from the research and delivery of professional development as well as the expertise and reputation of The Windward School and The Windward Teacher Training Program, The Windward Institute is committed to providing the same quality of opportunities for educators in the broader community.

Through The Windward Teacher Training Program and The Windward Institute, The Windward School understands the skill competencies and knowledge required of an expert reading teacher and applies this understanding to its professional development. While The School utilizes evidence-based pedagogy to teach its students, the Teacher Training Program and The Windward Institute invests in the research to support professional development and continuing education. For example, professional development opportunities in reading cultivate skills required for an expert reading teacher including:

1. The understanding of the reading brain and development

2. Knowledge of the structure of language as it applies to instruction

3. Application of evidence-based reading practices and strategies

4. Implementation of assessments (Moats, 1999, 2020).

The Windward Institute faculty includes experts in the scientific and educational fields as well as members of The Windward School community, enabling the broader community to engage in classes that facilitate direct translation and collaboration between research and practice.
