In September 2016, Windward Manhattan opened in our new state-of-the-art building on E. 93rd Street. By bringing our research-based program to New York City, we are able to help many more children with language-based learning disabilities bridge the gap between their performance and their academic potential. Two hundred and five students make up our Manhattan community. These children, returning students and students new to our School this fall, entered the school year excited to learn and grow academically and socially.
Faculty members at Windward Manhattan are experienced Windward teachers who have received training through the Windward Teacher Training Institute. Each member of this cadre of teachers is skilled and committed to delivering our educational program in a direct, multi-sensory way that is accessible to all of our students. In our intentionally diverse and inclusive setting, students experience academic success and opportunities for social and emotional growth, which empowers them to embrace their learning styles, build confidence, and develop self-advocacy skills.
I have always found that the Windward community is filled with respect, kindness and empathy. As a result, learning and achieving can take place in a safe and reassuring environment. I have been fortunate to work with Windward students and faculty as a Middle School teacher and staff developer, and as the Head of the Westchester Lower School. Bringing my experiences and knowledge of our program to both the lower and middle school divisions at Windward Manhattan is something I look forward to each day. I am thrilled that I will be able to work with our students and watch them thrive and reach their goals.
The Windward School’s mission remains unwavering and unchanged. We are one school with three campuses. Our common goal is evident in our commitment to helping our students achieve their full potential and preparing them for a successful return to the mainstream.
I look forward to a year full of learning and excitement!
