The Windward Parents Association (WPA) is thrilled to invite you to a community lecture on April 29 at 6:30 p.m. presented by Dr. Dena Simmons, titled From Surviving to Thriving: Creating Equitable Environments through Emotional Intelligence and Culturally Relevant Practices. The WPA is committed to working with the school administration in making Windward a more diverse, inclusive, and equitable community. Listening to perspectives, such as Dr. Simmons's, is an important part of that process. We very much hope you can join us for what will be a very engaging and informative lecture.

About Our Presenter:

Dr. Simmons is the founder of LiberatED, which defines itself as a social and emotional learning approach to racial justice and healing. Until recently, Dr. Simmons served as the Assistant Director of the Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence, where she helped schools harness the power of emotions to create a more compassionate and just society. Dr. Simmons grew up in the Bronx before attending a boarding school in New England. She will speak with the Windward community about her independent school experience and some of the lessons she learned. For a highlight, you may view her TED talk on the subject here.
