Welcome to Windward!

Over the next few months, you will receive emails and invitations to prepare you for the next school year. We hope this page provides you a place to get as much information as possible before receiving your myWindward invitation in late July/early August. Please bookmark this page, as we will be updating it over the next few months with forms. Once you have access to myWindward in August, you will be able to use the Forms and Documents page in the portal to access any forms you may need throughout the school year.

In early May, you received a communication about New Student Testing Mornings (lower schools) and New Student Testing Days (middle schools) scheduled for September 5 and 6. Please save those dates. More communication will be coming. Please refer to the communications list below for access to these communications.
In early June, you received an email from the Health Office with forms you can get filled out prior to submitting them in Schooldoc.com (see more below under Health Office for more details). Please refer to the communications list below for access to these forms.
On June 7, Manhattan Lower & Middle Schools' families received an email to fill out your child's transportation information. Once submitted, it will be sent to the front desk of your child's campus. Please refer to the communications list below for access to these forms.
On July 12, you were invited to Schooldoc.com. This resource is used for managing our students' health information. To get a head start on physicals, etc.,you can download health forms below. They are due to Schooldoc.com by August 16, 2019. If you have any issues with downloading or signing forms, please email communications@thewindwardschool.org. When you are invited to Schooldoc.com in July, you will be able to upload your forms directly to Schooldoc.com. Do not submit your health forms to The Windward School.
On July 17, The Windward School's After-School Activities and Sports Program will send a communication regarding registration for after-school activities at WLS, MLS, and MMS, and a communicaton regarding interest in sports for the school year at WMS and MMS.
On July 20, MLS, WLS, & MMS after-school activities signup will begin. Signup is first-come, first-served and closes September 6.
In late July, Westchester Lower and Middle Schools' families will receive an email to fill out your child's transportation information. Once submitted, it will be sent to the front desk of your child's campus.
In early August, you will receive an invitation to our parent portal, myWindward. In combination with the Wednesday We-Blast email, the parent portal is the primary means of disseminating information to the entire parent body throughout the school year.

Below are the links for The Windward School health forms. You can have these forms completed at your convenience. In mid-July, you will receive an e-mail from SchoolDoc.com with information about how to access and upload your student’s health information.

Once you have your forms completed, please upload the health forms to your student's SchoolDoc profile after the mid-July email invitation is sent to access your account. Paper copies will not be accepted. Do not send these forms back to your child's campus. Please set SchoolDoc as a ‘safe sender’ in your email to avoid accidental delivery to junk and spam folders.

Dear Families of New Westchester Lower School Second and Third Grade Students,

On Thursday, September 5 and Friday, September 6, The Windward School is holding New Student Mornings at each campus that will include a student orientation, tour of the building, and standardized testing. All new students are expected to attend school on these mornings. Students will have an opportunity to meet their homeroom teachers, see their classrooms, and meet other new students in their grade prior to taking the Iowa Assessments. Since this is not an instructional day, students are not required to attend school in dress code. Please use the information below when planning for your child’s arrival and dismissal, and please note that pick up times and procedures vary depending on grade. A separate letter is being sent to fourth grade families.

THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 5:

Arrival: 8:45 a.m.
Arrival Procedure: On the first New Student Morning, families will be directed to park and escort their child to their homeroom. After saying goodbye in homeroom, families will depart, and the student-only orientation and testing will begin.
Dismissal: 12:00 p.m. (grades 2 and 3)
Dismissal Procedure: Second and third grade students will be dismissed to cars in the second circular driveway, just past the school building. Upon arrival, Windward staff will direct cars to the appropriate pick-up queue, and students will be escorted directly to their vehicles. *A yellow car-pick-up placard with your child’s last name will be mailed home at the end of August. Please display the yellow placard visibly on the dashboard or visor when picking up your child.

Arrival: 8:45 a.m.
Arrival Procedure: On the second New Student Morning, students will be dropped off in the first circular driveway near the walkway to the main entrance of the building. Faculty and staff will be outside to greet students and walk them to their homerooms. *If necessary, drivers may also be directed to the lower lot for drop off where additional faculty and staff will be on hand to greet students.
Dismissal: 11:00 a.m. (grades 2 and 3)
Dismissal Procedure: Second and third grade students will be dismissed to cars in the second circular driveway, just past the school building. Upon arrival, Windward staff will direct cars to the appropriate pick-up queue, and students will be escorted directly to their vehicles. *Please display the yellow placard (see above) visibly on the dashboard or visor when picking up your child.

No preparation is necessary for the Iowa Assessments, but on September 5 and 6, we recommend that students arrive to school after a good night’s sleep and a nutritious meal. Snack will be provided by the School.

On Thursday, September 5 at 2:00 p.m., The Windward School is holding a First Grade Open House at both the Manhattan and Westchester Lower Schools. First grade students are encouraged to drop by their respective campus to meet their homeroom teachers, see their classrooms, and meet other first grade students prior to opening day on Monday, September 9.

The Open House is an informal drop in, and students must be accompanied by a parent, guardian, or other authorized adult. Since this is not an instructional day, students are not required to attend school in dress code. Please note that incoming first graders do not participate in the new student testing scheduled for September 5 and 6.

August 9, 2019 - WMS Letter to Parents of New Students

Dear Middle School Parents/Guardians:

I hope this letter finds you and your child/ren well rested, refreshed and ready to embark on a new and exciting school year.

Just a reminder, The Windward School is holding New Student Days that will include a student orientation, tour, and standardized testing. All new students are expected to attend the Westchester Middle School on Thursday, September 5 from 9:00 a.m. – 1:20 p.m. and Friday, September 6 from 9:00 a.m. – 12:40 p.m.

The 2019 – 2020 academic year begins on Monday, September 9. Upon arrival at school, all students will be met and directed to their homeroom classes where they will receive their schedules and introductory information. Homeroom will be extended in order to distribute school supplies. At that time, we will also help students organize their materials and ready them for their first day.

Guidelines regarding Middle School dress code can be found on the Parent Portal. The Windward dress code will be strictly enforced, and parent/guardian cooperation is greatly appreciated.

Printable grade-level directories are available in the Westchester Middle School section of the Parent Portal. The Windward School Handbook is also available on the Portal as well as forms and relevant school information. Please remember to check this resource regularly and to read the weekly We-Blasts for important information throughout the year. Please note these upcoming events.
