Middle School Student

Thank you for your interest in supporting Windward.  The Windward School, like all independent schools, depends on the generosity of our community to sustain and advance the mission of the school.  Windward has a long history of philanthropic support which continues to grow.  The Annual Fund supports the School’s operating budget.  Capital fundraising efforts have purchased the original building at 13 Windward Avenue, purchased and renovated the Middle School at 40 West Red Oak Lane, and funded the construction of the Manhanattan campus at 212 East 93rd Street through the Windward 2020: Share the Vision Campaign.

Windward’s fundraising initiatives consist of four ongoing, but separate programs:

  • The Annual Fund includes support from trustees, parents, grandparent, alumni and alumni parents, faculty and staff and friends of Windward annually.  The program provides essential unrestricted funds for the operating budget that enhance the delivery of Windward’s proven teaching methodology. Annual giving also supports a healthy financial aid program, making a Windward education available to students from a broad range of socioeconomic backgrounds.

  • The Windward 2020: Share the Vision Campaign began in 2011 to raise funds for the newly constructed Judith C. Hochman Building, which is home to the Westchester campus of the Windward Teacher Training Institute.  The Campaign also raised funds for the design, purchase, and construction of the Manhattan campus which opened in Fall 2016. Windward 2020 is currently in its second phase, The Campaign for Windward's future. The second phase will ensure that The Windward School will have the financial resources to save more lives by creating seats for more Windward students, providing financial aid in order to educate students regardless of financial need, maintaining and strengthening our commitment to professional development for Windward teachers, and teaching students with language-based learning disabilities to self-advocate.

  • Endowed Funds are created and funded by donors with specific restrictions such as financial aid, teacher training, or general support for the school.

  • Special Events are part of Windward’s calendar including two major fundraising efforts.  The Windward School Benefit takes place every other spring and includes dinner and silent and live auctions.  The Windward Classic Golf and Tennis Outing is an annual event that supports Windward Teacher Training Institute.
