Our progress towards finalizing a DEI plan continues, and it includes the engagement of the entire Windward community. Together, the Board of Trustees, families, faculty and staff members, students, and administration are contributing to a collective effort of creating and sustaining an inclusive, empathetic, and diverse environment where every member of the community feels safe and valued as well as a powerful sense of belonging. As we start to develop this work as a community and as an institution, we recognize the time it has taken for us to arrive at this moment and the impact that has had on our community members. In order to take a collective step forward together, each of us must commit to speaking out and also listening to others, especially when important topics generate discomfort in critical conversations.
This commitment to making meaningful change is a journey, and we have much work ahead of us. It's been a difficult year for everyone – feelings of fear, loss, and uncertainty have been a part of many of our realities. Together, with a shared set of values, we can make things better for our community today and for generations to come.
Every single one of us plays an important role in ensuring that all individuals feel welcomed, respected, appreciated, and safe to be themselves. While we are at the beginning of the road, the work being done has never been more important than it is today.

What's Coming Up Next?
Windward's DivE In Committee, made up of parents, employees, and trustees, will guide and oversee Windward's three-year DEI plan as it integrates in tandem with Windward's mission. With guidance from our consultant, Dr. Gene Batiste, DivE In meets regularly, and will soon share two developments with the community:
- a DEI statement that will ground The Windward School and our future work, similar to our mission statement
- a final version of Windward's three-year diversity, equity, and inclusion plan
