Leslie Zuckerwise, Division Head of Manhattan Lower and Middle Schools, To Retire After 20 Years at Windward

Mrs. Zuckerwise came to Windward after successful careers as a paralegal, computer operations manager, and resource room teacher. Like all Windward faculty members, she began as an assistant teacher and went through the Windward Teacher Training Program. After becoming a middle school lead teacher, she eventually went onto roles as Technology Instructional Support, New Teacher Staff Developer, WLS Assistant Division Head, and WLS Division Head. In 2010, she was nominated and awarded the Isabel Greenbaum Stone Master Teacher Award to acknowledge her expertise of the Windward program in the classroom and as a mentor to faculty.

While all her positions have made an impact on the Windward community, it is in her current role where her years of experience culminated and helped establish Manhattan Lower and Middle Schools into a thriving community.

As the first-ever Windward Division Head of Manhattan Lower and Middle Schools, she has led our students, families, faculty, and staff members since 2015. Through immense growth, successes, and challenges, she has ensured the continued excellence of the Windward program and maintained the high standards that we expect of all Windward community members.

Jamie Williamson, Head of School, congratulates Mrs. Zuckerwise, saying, "On behalf of the entire Windward community, I would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Mrs. Zuckerwise for her dedicated leadership and extraordinary accomplishments that Windward students, faculty, and staff members have achieved under her direction. She leaves an impressive legacy that we will celebrate at an appropriate time later in the school year. She is an exemplary colleague who will be dearly missed."
